Inspiring the Next Generation at ‘Future First’ Insight Day
Auto Windscreens recently opened its doors to 15 Level 1 students from Chesterfield College for its inaugural ‘Future First’ Insight Day, held during National Apprenticeship Week. The event was organised in partnership with social mobility charity, Future First, to encourage young people to explore career opportunities in the automotive sector.
The students took part in two lively ‘careers carousels’, discovering what it’s like to work in our contact centre, how we put customer care at the heart of everything we do, and our commitment to sustainability. They also learnt about our technical and training operations, including our innovative ADAS calibration service, Auto Calibrate. In addition, a CV and personal statement workshop led by our colleagues aimed to equip students with skills for their future job searches.
Georgie Lumu, Schools Membership Manager at Future First, commented:
"Days like today are so impactful for students. The power of meeting relatable, local role models is unmatched. Today has been a valuable day for the students of Chesterfield College to find out more about routes into apprenticeships and the types of careers available at Auto Windscreens. The chance to meet and learn from someone that they can relate to, who has gone on to succeed in the sector, could inspire them to follow a similar path and make them feel that if someone just like them has done it, they can too."
In further news, Auto Windscreens has become the newest partner of School of Thought Automotive, an organisation created by Dave Reece and Julie Eley to transform recruitment, retention and progression for young people across the industry. We’re proud to be the only automotive glazing partner, and we look forward to joining them at The British Motor Show (15–17 August) to champion the array of career possibilities within the sector.
Tony Green, our Head of Technical and Training, emphasised the importance of developing future talent:
“Many of the team at Auto Windscreens, including senior leaders, started their careers here as trainees or apprentices. We’re proud of our award-winning programme, which has supported more than 200 apprentices since 2016. We’ll continue to do what we can to encourage people to consider a role in our industry – after all, they’re our future.”
If you’d like to learn more about our apprenticeships or want to explore how you can get involved, please contact us. We’re committed to helping shape the next generation of automotive experts, and events like our ‘Future First’ Insight Day are just the beginning.
